Administrative Officer (Director of Management and Operations Overseas)

Role

Administrative Officers (Director of Management and Operations Overseas) ensure the effective management of country operations in support of a population of staff and Volunteers entirely dependent on the critical services they provide.  Specifically, they are responsible for:

  • Supervising an administrative unit of host country national staff and contractors serving as cashiers, administrative assistants, general services assistants, drivers and guards.
  • Providing financial analysis and managing budgets, human resources, procurements, contracts, property management, computer systems and general services.
  • Reviewing, interpreting and executing the implementation of new policies.
  • Providing financial and administrative support to Peace Corps Volunteers, briefing them on administrative policies, and distributing procedural guidelines.

Supervision/Guidance and Length of Tour

Administrative Officers work under the guidance and general supervision of the Country Director.  They are expected to serve in the assigned country for a minimum of 2 ½ years (one 30-month tour), or a maximum of 5 years (two 30-month tours).

Qualifications

Administrative Officers (Director of Management and Operations Overseas) should have at least one consecutive year of overseas work experience and at least one consecutive year of experience performing supervisory functions that included responsibility for establishing work plans, assigning work, and writing performance evaluations for multiple employees.  All Administrative Officers (Director of Management and Operations Overseas) must be United States citizens; and they must not have been associated with intelligence activities.

While most Administrative Officer positions do not require fluency in a language, a few do.  We anticipate a specific a need for fluent French, Portuguese and Spanish speakers.
