Overseas Staff Training (OST)
Successful candidates will be invited to attend a three-to-four-week long Overseas Staff Training (OST). One highlight of OST is Swearing In to become a Peace Corps and government employee.
OST is designed to provide to participants the knowledge and skills they will need to get started and be successful in their new position of Country Director, Administrative Officer or Program and Training Officer. Participants will also familiarize themselves with specific Peace Corp processes that pertain to their overseas assignment.
Participants will become acquainted with culture differences and organizational issues that may be found in their country post. They will be introduced to headquarters resources and networking opportunities that can help in smoothing the transition to an assigned country.
Medical and Background Clearances
An offer for overseas employment with the Peace Corps is contingent upon receiving a Medical Clearance for an assigned post. Your spouse and other eligible family members who will accompany you to an overseas post also are required to receive a medical clearance from the Department of State. It is important to know that an extensive background investigation leading to a Top Secret Clearance will also be conducted.
Time Frame
Overseas Staff Training occurs in January, June and October. Your Medical and Security Clearances should be completed prior to your participation in an OST.
It can take up to six months from the time a successful candidate completes the application to be interviewed, selected and cleared.
